LBW Investment Committee - June 2020 Meeting Minutes

A summary of some of the key items discussed in the recent meeting of the LBW Investment Committee are given below:

1.      Hedge fund portfolio contribution – We discussed the role of hedge fund strategies in the portfolio in light of underperformance by the sector. In particular, we reviewed exposures to leveraged strategies and their losses during the recent market downturn.

2.      Fund of funds – We reviewed the benefits and costs behind the use of fund of fund managers in highly specialised parts of the investment market including hedge fund strategies and private equity. In a low yield environment, the added fee for an intermediary investment manager begins to become highly unattractive as it requires underlying managers to push for additional excess returns.
